In 2022 we receieved a Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant. Our School, Albany Rise Primary was one of 110 childcare centres, schools, Scouts and Girl Guides groups, and youth groups to receive a 2022 Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grant. Delivered through Landcare Australia’s Junior Landcare program, the grants provide young people with the opportunity to engage in outdoor, hands-on biodiversity focused projects or learning activities that encourage them to value and act ively care for Victoria’s biodiversity and natural environment. We used our $5,000 grant to make over our overgrown garden and transformed it into an Indigenous oasis by incorporating indigenous shrubs, flowers and grasses that will re-created a habitat for native wildlife as part of our project. By expanding on our indigenous garden and updating the existing frog bog, gives our students a hands-on learning experience right here at our very own school. It provides students knowledge to teach their younger fellow students and learn how to monitor the frog bog and keep it healthy for the future. The Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants are funded by the Victorian Government through the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. They contribute to the targets of Protecting Victoria’s Environment – Biodiversity 2037, the Victorian Government’s plan to stop the decline of our native plants and animals and improve our natural environment.  For more information on the Victorian Junior Landcare and Biodiversity Grants Click here.
